About Alex Hyde

Alex Hyde
Welcome.
I am a professional natural history photographer based in the Peak District National Park, UK. I first developed an interest in photography as a means of getting closer to the natural world. When composing a scene of an insect or spider through my macro lens, I am always struck with a sense of discovery. To this day I delight in revealing tiny details of subjects that would be missed by the naked eye. Many of my pictures involve photographing moving subjects smaller than a grain of rice, requiring highly specialised equipment and a fair measure of patience. Nature provides me with an endless array of fascinating subjects and I am confident that I will never tire of photographing them. In addition to my close-up work, I enjoy photographing wild places. Whether it is a local Peak District scene or a tangled tropical rainforest in Borneo, I strive to capture a sense of true wilderness in my compositions.

My commissioned work frequently involves photographing people in the landscape, architecture and products, please see the commissions section of my website for details.

Teaching is an important and enjoyable part of my business. For the past five years, I have lectured in Digital Imaging and Natural History Photography on the MSc in Biological Photography and Imaging run at the University of Nottingham. I also run photographic tours and one-day courses. If you are interested in photography tuition, please visit the tuition page of my site.

A large volume of my work is represented on this website and rights-managed licenses and fine art prints can be purchased here. Additionally, I am represented by Nature Picture Library. Please note that I am unable to give images away for free (i.e. as desktop wallpaper, etc.) as I make my living from them.

Testimonials:

"Hi Alex. I would just like to add my thanks to you for last night's wonderful lecture, I did notice you attracted quite a crowd afterwards, who I am sure were gleaning information to go out and have a go themselves, so I am expecting some "Alex Hyde" type shots in future competitions, and I am also sure Lynne is planning for you to have a further visit.

Keith Gordon (Chairman, Chapel Camera Club)"
